Steven E. Conkel, M.D., M.S., F.A.C.S.

Steven E. Conkel, M.D., M.S., F.A.C.S.Dr. Steven Conkel joined SAS Surgery & Vein Specialists in the Fall of 2007. A native of Waverly, Ohio, Dr. Conkel earned his B.S. in Biology from Wright State University, Cum Laude, an honorary degree. He continued his education at the same institution and was awarded a Graduate Teaching Assistantship Scholarship earning a M.S. in Anatomy in 1996. He then matriculated into St. George’s University School of Medicine and became a member of Iota Epsilon Alpha Honor Society, an honor given to only the top 10% of the class.

Dr. Conkel completed his surgical internship and residency at The Jewish Hospital of Cincinnati. During his residency he did research in bariatric surgery. Dr. Conkel was awarded the Sidney Peerless Teaching Award in 2004 distinguishing his abilities to educate medical students. He completed his chief residency in 2007 when he was awarded the Fegelman Lectureship Award recognizing outstanding performance as a chief resident.

Dr. Conkel currently maintains an active and energetic practice at Ohio Valley Medical Center and Springfield Regional Medical Center. Dr. Conkel is board certified by the American Board of Surgeons and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). He is a member of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), Ohio State Medical Association (OSMA), and the Clark County Medical Society (CCMS).

Dr. Conkel practices general, dialysis access procedures, endocrine, breast and advanced laparoscopic surgery, including laparoscopic colon surgery. He also performs sentinel lymph node mapping and removal in the treatment of melanoma and breast cancers. Additionally he has a special interest in vascular access for dialysis patients and varicose vein treatment modalities including the Venefit Closure procedure.

Dr. Conkel is committed and promises to bring state of the art technology along with a comprehensive, well-rounded practice to the Springfield area. Dr. Conkel is appreciative and feels privileged to be a member of the SAS Surgery & Vein Specialists and looks forward to many years of practice in the Springfield community. Dr. Conkel resides in Springfield with his wife Aimee and their children. His interests and hobbies include flying, he is an FAA licensed pilot, scuba diving, playing basketball and hiking.
